Best ever

It was the best experience ever, which includes picking up from the airport, orientation, housing, events, final interview and there is a drop off at the airport too. It could not have been better. Brian and Nicholas were very helpful since the beginning. Brian always stayed in touch with me to make sure that I am learning enough in the office and getting all the help I need. I cannot thank him enough for everything he has done for me. Nicholas was constantly sending me advice in the email for the places to visit in NYC city and asking for my feedback my program. Overall, it was a great experience. I am looking forward to hearing more London internship program.

Great experience in great city

Definitely a meaningful and memorable experience to me. I was able to practice my working skills in my dream position, with new friends from diverse countries and helpful coordinator and other staff in Intern Group. Though only lasts 2 month, this trip would not only be a highlight in my CV, but also a story I would like to share to all!

My internship in the big apple

From start to finish the Intern Group NY were extremely helpful and caring. I cannot praise Nicholas enough for his help during the VISA process, I couldn't have done it without him. Brian was very welcoming and arranged fun activities during the 6 months I was there, my favourites being Top of the Rock and the Boat Cruise on the Hudson River. A big thank you to Andy, Emma, Katherine, for being super friendly and quickly tackling any problems I faced on my internship.

I absolutely loved the production internship I was placed on and I've made excellent s and friends for life. My office was based in Dumbo which was amazing as I could sit by the river at lunch and view the incredible Manhattan skyline.

New York really is the greatest city in the world. The food, the people and the views are fantastic. For anyone interested in applying to Intern NY, I would say, go for it, you won't regret it.

New York internship experience

Had an amazing time, with great people and incredible opportunities!
Everything was arranged very well and if I had any questions or needed anything, I was able to someone very easily. Additionally, many activities were organised during the weekends during which you could meet all the other interns.
Definitely would do it again!

A fruitful journey

It has been a wonderful journey working as an intern in New York City. At work, my colleagues are friendly and helpful and my boss is patient and kind to me. I believe my effort is recognized and I have gain knowledge beyond theory and books through hands-on experience. For social life, though it is pretty tired after a hustle workday, I find my myself never still cease to be attracted by the beauty of the great apple. Imagine yourself living in the scenes of Hollywood movie and that is how I spend my last 2 months. Not bad, right? Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, Coney Island, Rockefeller. You name it. I even pay my visit to the nearest cities including Philadelphia, Washington DC, Niagara and Toronto during my weekends.

Of course, it is never easy to adapt yourself in a strange environment. I am a undergraduate university student from Hong Kong. It is of rare occassion that I will stay in a foreign city for more than a week. I feel a bit disorientated at my first night. And it got tougher for not speaking my mother tongue-Cantonese in a long time. But let me share my secret formula to conquer these challenges with you - roll out, meet some friends. I promise you they won't bite.

This is Thomson from Hong Kong and I wish you good fortune in your journey ahead.

Internship at the advance group, summer 2017

The opportunity to reside in New York City for two months proved to be one worth seizing. I had an excellent time, both through the internship placement itself and during free time, when I was able to explore the city to my heart's content. The internship placement itself proved to be extremely interesting, and allowed me to interact directly with several elements of local politics in the U.S, experience that will be invaluable to me in the future. My accommodation was excellent, particularly given its location on the Upper West Side with close links to the subway system. Overall the experience was excellent.

Experience of a lifetime!

Living and working in New York for the past 2 months have been incredible and I'm going to miss everything it so much! I have made some amazing friends and have discovered a new city that I will no doubt be coming back to very soon. Before coming here, I never thought of myself as someone who could live and work in a big city like London, let alone New York, so to be coming to the end of doing just that AND loving it is huge for me and makes me feel like I have so much more opportunities open to me.

I had so many doubts before coming here like the fact that I've never been away from my friends and family for so long and just the prospect of going to New York on my own is terrifying, but I'm so glad I did. It's made me so much more independent and is something that will stay with me for the rest of my life, both in a personal and professional sense.

So to anyone thinking of doing this, just do it. You won't regret it and will have the time of your life. Although it's expensive (and trust me, that was one of the things holding me back at first), think it as an investment into your future! To have this on your CV will make you more employable and more likely to get a better job out of it! Plus you get to brag the fact that you've done an internship in New York!

Balanced Work and cultural experience

This Internship experience exceeded my expectation. I could work at a wonderful company and learn so many valuable experiences including practical skills and networking. Also, weekly events on Saturday by The Intern Group provided me an opportunity to experience this amazing city and the US culture. Therefore I strongly believe that this two months internship was one of the most important and precious experience for me. The Intern Group supported the whole process carefully from the beginning to the end. I will recommend this program to other people who need an internship opportunity.

Fabulous

Great experience living in New York and working in a company based overseas. Amazing trips on the weekends. The city makes up for the lack of amenities in the rooms. Great to have on your CV, as really makes you stand out. Enjoyed it thoroughly. The only thing is to make sure you get what YOU want out of the internship, as some of the work tasks can be a bit monotonous.

Life changing

My 3 months in New York was genuinely the best 3 months of my life so far. I was thrilled daily by the city's constant ability to surprise me further. There was always something new going on and I learned so much as I experienced the people and New York culture. I wish I could relive it and couldn't recommend it more to anyone who's on the fence! Yes it is challenging but it'll be the most exciting and enriching challenge you ever take. What's more the team of support you have is faultless. Brian and Julia are simply wonderful and Nicholas is so helpful and encouraging if you ever need some support!

Once in a lifetime experience

Going to the Big Apple might only be a dream for me if it's not for the Intern Group. Even though the process of coming there can be a bit challenging, they guided me through it and I made it in time. The experience during the internship was also priceless. I got to work with real professionals with 20+ years of experience in my field who were very supportive and gave me a lot of guidance and advices. Beyond the work the Intern Group always arranged a weekend getaway in which we can experience and see the city of New York along with the other interns. It was for me an invaluable experience and I feel like this experience is going to help me going forward in my future career. Thank you Intern Group.

Awesome memories

Was skeptical at first but had a great time working here and living but it all ended up being great fun. Got to do many new things and to an extent probably got to discover more things myself as well as learn more the world around me. Company and intern group were both great! I had a point I hurt my hand playing sports with clubs and the intern group very very helpful and gave great advice when it came to medical treatment and what to do and who to call/keep updated. Very stress free time here. One thing they did well was make me feel involved and am important part of the family here!

8 weeks intern at New York

I was working with a political consulting firm during in my time at NYC. It's been an amazing experience. I have really involved into New York City's political world by attending variety of fundraiser events for NGOs and council members. I also attended staff meeting and a community meeting of a city labour union which provided with great opportunities of knowing the internal structure of labour unions. Additionally, the entire process of applying this internship with the intern group is quite straightforward. They are great people that are always there for help. Overall it was a unforgettable experience and I centainly will come back to work in the city in the future.

Best decision ever!

I honestly cannot think of anything I would've wanted to go differently or would've changed my experience with the Intern Group. There was only a week between the moment I realized I wanted to pursue an internship in the States and my "Acceptance Email" into the program. Everyone on the Intern Group was (and is!) highly professional and supportive throughout the entire journey, from setting up interviews with potential employers to arranging your visa and healthcare plan. I honestly could not be happier with the company I got placed with; I gained a tremendous amount of knowledge and skills, got comfortable working in a different work environment and with people from all different kinds of nationalities, had opportunities to expand my network and build valuable relationships for my future endeavors, and all that in a relatively short period of time. I do not think I would've been able to find an internship like this without the help of the Intern Group; it even led me to an extended position with my company!

Great time!

Such an amazing opportunity to live and work in NYC. The placement process was simple, the first few companies I interviewed with were not quite what I was looking for but after clarifying what I was after I was placed in an amazing company, which I loved! There were activities provided around the city every weekend as well as career development talks. Brian and Julia always did their best to accommodate all the interns on these trips and we always had a great time. It was really easy to make friends with the other interns and we always went out to eat and to make the most of all that NYC nightlife has to offer, which was always amazing. All in all an unforgettable time- would definitely recommend it if you can afford it. Experience in NYC will stand out on any resume/ CV.

Life changing

My experience in New York with the Intern Group was brilliant. From the day I applied to my last day in the City I was well looked after and had excellent support.
Before arriving in the City, I had great support with my Visa Process which at times was confusing and would have found it much harder without the Intern Group guiding me through each step.
I had constant check ups through email and phone calls making sure I was on track with everything and was doing ok.
It was great to have the Intern group organise my accommodation and Airport transfers for me, it took a lot of stress off of me and enabled to me to focus on other things.
It was reassuring that I would be living in the same building as other interns also.
I arrived on the Saturday and on the Sunday I met up with Brian (Experience Coordinator) who briefed me through everything I would need throughout my stay, including Metro cards which was a huge plus!
Every Saturday there would be an event for all the interns which was a change to get to know each other and have fun! We would go to all the attractions such as Top Of The Rock, 9/11 Memorial, Boat Trips, Statue of liberty and many more. It was nice to have something planned for every weekend.
All the interns were very close and would always get together and make plans during the week to go for dinner or plan events like a broadway show or whatever event was happening that night (as there was always something!)
Personally my internship was amazing. While the Intern group were searching for an internship for me, I did turn down one Interview opportunity they had found for me as it didn't sound like something I was into. They understood completely and carried on searching until they found the perfect company for me. I learnt so much from my Internship and am so grateful for such a great placement. I know for sure it will benefit me greatly now being back in London and searching for a Job.
Overall my experience with the internship was painless and made as easy for me as possible.
Best thing I have ever done and would recommend it greatly to anyone who was thinking of going for it.

Perfect balance of work and fun

The internship was great, the administration from the intern group was fast, responsive and reliable. Made the whole trip hassle free, which gives you more time and freedom to explore the city and focus on work. The activities on the weekends with the other interns were always interesting and fun

Worked hard, played hard, and earned a job at the end of it.

My experience with the Intern Group was overwhelmingly positive. There were ups and downs, but mostly ups. I felt the team truly wanted me to succeed, and with their help, I did.

I found the Intern Group when I was a year out of university and stuck in a rut. I had a good degree but was struggling to get my foot in the door in any decent job in my field. But I still hesitated until the very last minute to sign up with the Intern Group, partly because my parents were convinced it was a scam (spoilers: it's not), but mostly because I come from a working class family, and internships are not really designed with people like me in mind.

I'm not going to sugarcoat it: taking an unpaid internship (particularly one abroad) when you don't come from money is hard. It's really hard. I worked 3 jobs simultaneously for 8 months prior to my start date just to pay for it, and I still didn't quite have enough. I couldn't go out with the other interns for their various outings to bars, nightclubs, etc., and ate a lot of ramen noodles. But I truly believe the Intern Group did everything in their power to help me with my financial situation, and I cannot thank them enough for it. They were patient and understanding with me, and always helped me to find solutions that would work.

My placement itself was not exactly what I was looking for in terms of industry, but it has helped me to hone my skills in a lot of corresponding areas and, moreover, has lit a fire under my ass to pursue my ambitions. I am no longer in the rut and have already begun taking successful steps towards the career I want. Just having experience in NY is a big step. Even my parents, initially huge skeptics my decision to pursue this internship, have recently commented that it's the best thing I've ever done.

At the end of my 3 month internship, I was offered a permanent position with the company and am still here, almost 7 months after arriving in NY as a nervous Scot with a single suitcase and big dreams. The Intern Group keeps in touch, and helped me to get in touch with the right people to extend my visa. I cannot praise Nicholas enough for his help during the initial visa process--it is an unbelievable complicated and confusing process, but he patiently talked me through it even when the website was causing problems!

One slight area for improvement that the Intern Group could make is monitoring the interns' work hours a little better. I don't think this is a problem that many interns will face (most seemed to be organizing dinners and drinks at 5.30pm night after night, while I was still at my desk past 8 many evenings after starting at 9am). I know a few fellow interns who were being forced to work far, far longer than they should have, though I know the IG staff did help with this in at least one instance. It can put interns in an uncomfortable position when their host organization is asking too much from them and don't feel they have the power to say no, so a tad more oversight could be beneficial. I also found I couldn't attend the professional development classes the IG offered because I didn't finish work until really late, so that was a shame.

So yes, you'll work hard as an intern, but the Intern Group provides plenty of opportunities to have fun. I really enjoyed trips to NY's beautiful museums and art galleries in particular. The Circle Line Cruise was also fun to see the Statue of Liberty, and the Top of the Rock trip. And I really loved the opportunity to do some volunteer work at Thanksgiving--that was a unique and exciting opportunity. Brian was always friendly and made me feel very welcome. Andy, who leads the program and conducted the welcome meet with me, was also very friendly, as was every other staff member I interacted with. (Side note: they also sent a car to pick me up at the airport which was great because I had a very long day of travelling and was really nervous!)

As I mentioned previously, the interns hung out together a lot in other capacities (dinner, drinks, concerts, etc) so the social aspect is probably really great for a lot of people, but since I couldn't afford to go with them, I didn't really get to know any of the other interns. Instead, I made my own band of friends outside of work and interns, and we've become very close. They were one of the reasons I chose to stay in NY at the end of my internship, and I thank the Intern Group for giving me the opportunity to come out here and meet so many great people.

The last thing to mention is the accommodation. It's fine. That's really all there is to it. I've seen some people whining it, but I really don't know what palace they expected to find in NY! I liked that I had a little private room (even though the view from the window was a brick wall!), and while the communal bathroom took a little getting used to, it was not a problem. The one area I generally avoided was the kitchen because it was often dirty and full of roaches, but that was the fault of the dirty people who didn't do dishes, and not the Intern Group or even really the staff in the building. Some of the 92Y staff were a little rude (like the woman who rudely woke me up at 7am on the day I was moving out to find out why I was still there, despite move out time being noon...) but overall they were fine. The only real problem I had was not being sent the welcome email until my third month in the building (it contained info I could have used at the start!) and then being badgered by the building's staff not attending an induction thing that I had never once been told (hence why I needed the intro email). But again, this was not the fault of the Intern Group.

Overall, the pros far outweighed the cons for me. The Intern Group was helpful and considerate, and the opportunity they gave me has allowed me to continue working in NY and experience a lot of new and exciting opportunities. It is not free, but the best things in life rarely are. While it was very difficult for me to do, I would do it again.

New York internship

I thoroughly enjoyed my whole internship and only wished that Id agreed to a longer period of time. Initially I was feeling quite home sick and Brian did a really good job at making me feel welcomed at my orientation breakfast and introducing me to the other interns that came along to the breakfast. I really enjoyed the regular Saturday events that were organised and socialising with other interns. Brian was always so lovely and had such a high level of enthusiasm and excitement for each event even though he'd done all several times.

Unfortunately I fell badly sick with the flu around my second week of being in New York and was unable to do much for myself at that time. Amy was amazing and came over to 92Y and assisted and helped me go to the doctors. After accompanying me back to my accommodation Amy then went and picked up my medication and a few groceries to keep me going. I'm so grateful and appreciative for what Amy did, I don't know what I would have done without her! A few days later Brian popped by to see how I was going and brought me a few more groceries to keep me going.

I started to really settle into work and feel at home after my third week. I really enjoyed my daily routine of going into work and seeing the team in the office every day. Everyone was really nice from day one and made me feel very welcome. I appreciated that I was assigned a diverse combination of tasks at my work place so that I did get a taste of everything in the short time that I was interning.

Its crazy to think that I nearly didn't apply for this because it was too out of my comfort zone but its been one of the most rewarding experiences I've ever done! I wish I could go back and do it all again!!
