One on one learning

The Spanish program itself was great. Since it was low season in Peru while I was studying I was able to get a lot of attention so my Spanish excelled rapidly. Cusco is a great city with many different learning and exploring opportunities.
Physical Therapy Experience
Submitted by Mac Wheeler - Marquette University | January 17, 2018
I was a volunteer in the physical therapy department at a senior living facility in the city of Cartago. I worked alongside other students from a local university and provided assistance to them however they needed it during their morning therapy sessions with the residents. My personal responsibilities were limited as my manual therapy skills and knowledge are not too extensive, but I still greatly enjoyed the experience and learned some new skills as well. The residents were very fun to talk to as they had many interesting stories to share and were also very interested in learning more me! The clinical supervisor Juan was a great teacher, and the other students were also very welcoming towards me. Working with these students helped me meet some local Costa Ricans around my own age and I developed some great friendships with them. I also received great support from my site coordinator, Tati who was always checking in on me and making sure I was having a rewarding experience.
Overall, this experience would be very beneficial to a PT student who has some background in clinical treatment as it will allow you to participate more at your site. However, even if your skills are limited you can still learn a lot by being assertive in asking questions and trying to take on more responsibilities. The more you put into this experience, the more you'll get out of it!
Guatemala was amazing!!!

One of the most exciting two weeks spent in Guatemala and the support of Maximo was a plus. Getting the opportunity to volunteer for the holiday project and child care was very rewarding. I enjoyed each day by exploring antigua and assisting with project placement. I would highly recommend this location because of the involvment with projects and with people at maximo by providing support throughout the two weeks.
Karen and Maximo are wonderful!

Maximo has been quite the experience for me. I took the TEFL course in Antigua Guatemala For starters the teacher (Karen) that led my group was amazing!!! Caring, patient, and extremely knowlendgable! She was there every single step of the way offering a helping hand, and giving great realistic advice. She's been doing this a long time and she still loves it. You can tell. She genuinely cares her students and their futures. Aside from her the staff at Maximo is very helpful as well. They offer their time and resources for all of the students and staff. I loved my experience with Maximo and can proudly say I will be working for them starting in February!
Cultural and Spanish classes at Maximo Nivel

Overall my trip and classes were excellent. I really enjoyed the program and the staff at Maximo Novel here in Manuel Antonio. The professor worked well with myself and helped to integrate the culture aspect of my class into a Spanish learning based class. Maximo Nivel ran smoothly and would recommend the program for someone who was looking to learn culture and sharpen up their Spanish. My host mom was amazing, as she helped me a lot with my Spanish and providing two tasty meals everyday. I really enjoyed my time in Costa Rica and am excited to come back again one day.
What a fantastic experience.

What a unique collection of people you find yourself surrounded by in an environment like this. La profesora Karen has to be the backbone of this incredibly well oiled machine. She has enough energy to power a small town, I dare say. It's obviously more economic completing the course online, but the people and lessons that you have the opportunity to take away are so worth just getting amongst it and doing it in person.

I am so glad that I chose to earn my TEFL certification with Maximo Nivel in Antigua. Maximo staff are all great and helpful, the school facilities are excellent, and the location is amazing. The TEFL instructor, Karen, is such an incredible person. The course will challenge and inspire you, and you'll see yourself and your TEFL classmates grow every day. The last week of the course is practical teaching, which is an incredible experience and something that no online TEFL course could match. I can't speak highly enough of this program.

My volunteering experience in guatemala was heartwarming in every way! My placement was run by incredibly dedicated women and I was humbled to gift them a garden to nurture. The program was extremely well organized and I felt support from the center, home stay and childcare center. I would highly recommend this to anyone thinking volunteering, whether it’s your fire then time or tenth. Thank you for everything!

Who knew that taking a 4-week intensive course learning how to teach English could be one of the most fun, entertaining, enlightening, fulfilling experiences you could have?! Oh yes it was challenging, nay exhausting, at times, but the hard work pays off and the drained energy is replenished ten-fold when you hold that certificate in your hand and actually start to teach in a real class room - it's exhilarating! Maximo Nivel has your back every step of the way, helping with daily practicalities: homestay organising, country advice, tours and cultural trips and the provision of study areas with PCs, research information, teaching aids and complimentary tea, coffee and water. I took my course in their Guatemala school (La Antigua) and the staff and teachers could not be more helpful, or cheerful!! In particular, our skilled and passionate TEFL trainer, Karen Wilke, who never lacked enthusiasm or creativity, providing guidance tailored to your specific learning style and endless support and advice on techniques and teaching resources to make this one of the most organised and inspirational courses I have experienced. You also get to meet some of the most incredible people in Antigua and your fellow TEFL students become your family who assist and encourage you throughout the studying weeks. You get so much more than an international TEFL qualification - you get life skills and precious s that will serve you forever!
