MAXIMO NIVEL Reviews
Mom of the House
Submitted by Holly R - University of Michigan | June 16, 2018
My host house (minus some drunk individuals that were unpopular) was a fantastic place of warmth and friendship. My host dad (Yuri) was always available and created an atmosphere of kindness and family. I became so close with others in the house that they started calling me the house mom. My project was wonderful at Abre Puertas in Coya where I know I made a difference and my kids will miss me greatly. I will be back next year.
Program: Working with Kids—Volunteer in Peru!

Coming into this program was really different from what I had imagined. A packed curriculum and high expectations for 4 weeks made me think of a daunting study environment. But it was quite the opposite. The caring staff at Maximo, partnered with a skilled and fun teacher and very concrete goals made this experience very enjoyable. The workload is significant, yet the journey is pleasant with the right company, which I believe Maximo has accomplished in their Manuel Antonio Institute. It helps to be by the beach, though I can´t say I got to see it that often. Audra is really talented as a teacher and interesting as a person. I recommend it!
Native Spanish Program

I stayed at Maximo for approximately 5 weeks for the Native Spanish Program and during that time I learned a lot and raised my proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking Spanish. The classes were intensive and could sometimes be pretty difficult but definitely worth it after seeing all of the progress that I have made since being here.
Aside from the classes, the staff and resources at Maximo were extremely helpful and having a travel agency located in the same building made it easy to meet other travelers and take fun trips around the area (such as Machu Picchu). I would definitely recommend the Maximo Spanish Program to anyone trying to learn the language.

I had an amazing time at Maximo learning Spanish. I came in with no knowledge of Spanish and within 4 weeks was able to progress up to level pre intermediate. My teachers were all wonderfully accommodating to my needs as well as their other students, the levels were appropriate, and classes were all interactive so I could practice my Spanish while studying in the book. The homestay accommodations were also really nice, and the host family was sweet. Staff at Maximo was really helpful with literally everything I could need,.

This was such a great experience. I recommend talking to as many locals at your placement for the best results. My favorite thing this program was getting to see just how different everything works here compared to the United States.
