International Volunteer HQ [IVHQ] Participant Reviews
The world coming together
Submitted by Nina - College of the Holy Cross | June 20, 2018
My first trip with IVHQ was an amazing experience. As a pre med student, I was interested in seeing what the medical profession was like in a different country, specifically my family’s home country. The doctors and nurses were very friendly and happy to answer my questions. I learned so much from the different departments of the hospital and was able to determine which were my strengths and weaknesses. I also worked alongside with the other volunteers, who have become to be my friends. They were one of the main highlights of my IVHQ trip. Even though I was able to communicate to the doctors and patients in Vietnamese, I learned that laughter has no language barrier. Overall, I am thankful for this amazing opportunity to be able to learn and continue my study in medicine. I look forward to continue my trips with IVHQ!
Teaching program in Kenya

I'm so blessed to have taught children in different cities of Kenya. They said I impacted them, but really they impacted me with their hard work, kindness and love more than they'll ever know. All the staffs and volunteers helped and taught me a lot so that I can have a wonderful time there. The three months memories will be cherished for my lifetime. Plus, I seriously would love to come back again!

Would recommend IVHQ Bali to anyone and everyone I know!

I volunteered with the IVHQ Bali Ubud program for 4 weeks teaching Kindergarten and doing school renovations when the students were out of school for holidays. The staff at the Green Lion Bali were among the nicest and most helpful people I've ever met. They were always making sure we felt prepared, safe, and were enjoying our time there. Additionally, the trip was incredibly affordable. For 4 weeks in Bali I ended up spending $3500 USD in total (all fees, flights, room, board, etc.). I would recommend this program to anyone. The only thing that I will say surprised me is that the accommodations are not in Ubud center, they are farther out of town in a village. However, I quite liked having a little bit of isolation from town.

This was the best experience of my life! I have always wanted to travel and volunteer abroad and IVHQ made this so fun and easy.
During the week we were able to volunteer and take in the experiences we wanted while leaving plenty of time to explore the country for the weekend.
Highly highly recommend this organization if you want a new way to travel and give back.
Conservation work in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

This program was everything + MORE of what I was hoping it would be. I have never travelled solo due to anxiety and although I had a panic attack on my way TO the airport heading there- I haven't come close to having one since :) I felt so welcome and strangely at home during my stay at Nakavango, Victoria Falls. Hands down the best thing I ever pushed myself to do. Well worth every dollar and moment of life spent :)
Time of my life !!!

It was honestly the most amazing experience, I took part in the Bali kindergarten project in ubud and had the time of life. I met some amazing people and was pushed completely outside my comfort zone but I loved every minute. The children taught me so much, they had so much potential and it was a blessing to be a part of their lives.

Volunteering in Colombia for two weeks was the best experience in the world. I had an incredible time and met so many incredible people along the way. I loved getting to spend time working with and getting to know like-minded people. The projects I worked in involved children who were sweet as can be and made it extremely hard to leave. The only bad part of my trip was when I had to say goodbye.
IVHQ Victoria Falls

Volunteering with IVHQ in Victoria Falls was the best decision I have ever made. I cannot even begin to explain how extraordinary of an experience it was and the incredible people I met along the way. I participated in the Wildlife Conservation project (the only project offered in Victoria Falls), and I learned more the native plants and animals than I ever imagined I would. The vast knowledge of the staff is truly incredible and they do an extraordinary job of making it feel like home. It is definitely worth every penny, I would highly recommend this program to anyone.
Childcare Project-South Africa

Prior to making the decision to volunteer with IVHQ, I did my research and read many reviews that were positive. Now with firsthand experience, I can attest to the organization’s tremendous ability to effectively provide volunteer abroad opportunities for anyone. I volunteered in South Africa for three weeks on the Childcare Project. Before, during, and after, IVHQ program managers have kept an open line of communication; ensuring smooth transitions between the numerous aspects of volunteering internationally. IVHQ made international volunteer accessible and trouble-free. Moreover, teaching, comforting and encouraging children who have little to nothing, yet wear a smile each day, was the best experience of my life thus far. My weeks spent volunteering in a township of South Africa weren’t meant to change the world. Instead, I intended on leaving a lasting impact on each child I came across. IVHQ helped me to do just that.

I had wanted to volunteer for a few years before hearing IVHQ through a friend and thought they were the perfect match for me. The IVHQ team prior to departure were extremely helpful in answering any questions and helping me change my program dates last minute. The local team once at the project were beyond amazing. The passion for helping the community was truly felt by the local team and they passed on that passion to each volunteer. The food was amazing and catered to everyone with a mix of local and western food. There were some great social games organized after dinner most nights which was a great way to break the ice and meet other volunteers doing other projects. The orientation was a great opportunity to explore the local area and learn the culture. In the short time I was there I felt I was able to make a genuine connection with the community, the local team, the children and my fellow volunteers. My only regret is that I didn’t stay longer!
